About our BigBendSportsman.net

site and the Big Bend Sportsman

 Guide Fishing Tournaments and

 Special Family Events.

It was May of 2001 when a small group of sportsmen got together for the first time after meeting each other in cyberspace. For months they had known each other only by their screen names. They had talked about fishing and shared numerous adventures, but they had never seen each other before. They gathered in Cedar Key for a fishing tournament. That event set the stage for following fishing tournaments, each held in different locations throughout the Big Bend. Each time more sportsmen signed up for the outing and the turnout continued to increase.

These fishing tournaments started from the WhopperStopper.com web site. This was a Big Bend Florida Sportsman guide founded by Captain Ken Roy. The web site offered not only a great place to meet people with common interests, but also a place where fishing tips and fishing tactics could be shared. As time passed, the web pages were hosted on various servers, the forum software was changed, different domain names were registered, and the organization evolved to become BigBendSportsman.com – a fellowship housed in cyberspace.  Throughout all the years and changes one thing has remained the same - our purpose for meeting here.

The forum membership has grown, the web site expanded and the tournaments have become weekend gatherings of families and friends. The purpose of the group has broadened to support outdoors conservation efforts, fishing related charities and other fishing clubs within the Big Bend area. Despite all this growth, the environment has remained relaxed and friendly.

After many years of leading the way, in July of 2007, Captain Ken decided to step down from running BigBendSportsman.com. Instead of closing down the site, he asked some of the forum membership to help run it and to incorporate it as non profit organization. As a public resource, Big Bend Sportsman Inc. could continue his vision of building relationships, sharing fishing knowledge and supporting outdoors conservation efforts.

The site’s well being is now in the hands of the forum membership. Its existence depends on their support. This is a community that spans the distance between cyberspace and the real world where friends can meet up 24/7 to share the great outdoors. We invite you to join us if you are not already a member or to enjoy our hospitality if you are just passing through.

We welcome you to browse through our fishing tournament web pages and see for yourself the friendships and camaraderie that are abundant in our community. We also hope you will join us at our Big Bend Sportsman Guide fishing tournaments. We celebrate them when possible throughout the year. Just stay tuned to this channel for updates and you can “hook up” with us and join the crew!
